So what is The Office Pub Quiz?

So, you’re a quiz virgin??
If you’ve never been before, then there are a couple of things you should know about The Office Pub Quiz.

How do we play?
Very simple. There are five rounds of 10 questions each, thus 50 questions. Each round is different and they are as follows:

Click on each to see an example of that round.

All answer sheets, pens and so on that you’ll need to play are provided by the Office Pub.

Is it in English?
Yes, but stop panicking. If you can understand this text, then you will understand the quiz. Each question is also read twice, just in case you didn’t quite get it the first time.

Can I answer in German?
Yes, except on a very few occasions (like when the answer should be a Latin word or something). All answers can be given in either English or German, but we would prefer English (and it’s good for you).

Is there a limit on team size?
Unofficially, it is four. However, I understand that you want to play with your friends and maybe there are more of you. That’s O.K., but the price goes up a bit after the fourth person (see below).

You mentioned money: what do we have to pay?
It costs €1 per person up to four people on a team. After that it’s €1.50 per person on the same team. The money doesn’t go into anyone’s pocket, except potentially yours, as it all goes into the “pot”. At the end of the quiz, the winning team gets ½ the pot and the second placed team ¼. The final ¼ of the pot is put into the Accumulator. If there is any money left over that didn’t divide evenly by four, it goes to the third place team.

What is the Accumulator?
The Accumulator is like a jackpot. Each week a quarter of the pot, plus €10 from The Office, is added to the Accumulator pot. The amount just gets bigger and bigger until it is won by a team (or teams). If more than one team wins it, then you split it evenly between you.
To win the Accumulator, you have to get 10 out of 10 on the Blockbuster Round. The amount you win could be €20 or it could be €500 – it depends how long since the last team won it.

Winning the Quiz
There are different ways to win: The Night, The Month and The Season.

The Night: Quite simply, the team with the most points at the end of the night wins. The second place and third place teams also (usually) win some money. So far, the highest score ever was 55 and the lowest 8.

The Month: The totals for each team for each night of the month are put together and, voilá, you get a monthly winner - they get a free bottle of bubbly from the bar and everlasting fame.

The Season: The same as the Month, but over the whole quiz season. This runs from October until the end of July. What’s the prize? Well, that’s a mystery, but you can bet it’ll be good.

Changing Team Name
If you are playing in the Month or Season and want the scores recorded, then you must keep the same team name throughout the period of play, unless the Quizmaster allows the change.

PLEASE, we strongly advise you to keep a team name, even if the personnel have changed a bit. Of course it is up to you, but keeping track of lots of teams is a pain in the arse. The less you annoy the quizmaster, the better.

General Rules

  • The quiz is about having fun. While there is money to be won, the really serious business is coming out on a Tuesday night and enjoying a few drinks with friends.
  • NO CHEATING. This includes the use of mobile phone, which will be confiscated and given back after the quiz.
  • The quizmaster is always right, even if he is wrong.
  • If the quizmaster is wrong, see the above rule.
  • It’s always nice to give the last placed team a clap. Just remember, without them, it could be you!!!
